Mentoring

Mentoring is a proven, effective support tool at all levels of an organisation and is frequently seen in the highest levels of management. Mentoring is the transfer of knowledge, skills and insights from a more experienced person who guides their protégé by giving examples and advice, by sharing their own stories and by opening doors of opportunity.
Mentors may or may not be more senior, they will always be more experienced. This relationship’s strength lies in the mentor’s specific knowledge and wisdom.  Importantly a mentor is often found outside the organisation – a valuable resource for those working at a strategic level and wishing to move their organisation forward.
Mentors are provide through CfOD’s extensive range of client contacts and include leaders working at the highest level of management in like-organisations or by those individuals with the specialist knowledge and skills required to move both individual and organisational leadership forward.
We have matched a large number of mentors and mentees through our diverse network of client organisations – particularly CEOs and senior executives who needed to look outside their organisation for the skills and knowledge required to move their organisation forward.
There are myriad benefits associated with mentoring, and they are as unique as the people involved in the mentoring relationships. Yet, some general benefits exist. In terms of these benefits, mentoring:

  • Allows for increased self-awareness and self-discipline
  • Provides an expanded personal network
  • Offers a proven method to share ideas, try new skills and take risks
  • Enhances the capacity to translate values and strategies into productive actions
  • Improves awareness of personal biases, assumptions and areas for improvement
  • Increases technical and professional expertise
  • Creates a culture of acceptance and inclusion
  • Reinforces cultural norms and values
  • Allows new recruits to have a smoother transition into the workforce to further professional career development
  • Renews mentor’s enthusiasm for their role as expert.
